About this tool
What does it do?
It pretty-prints and validates XML with consistent indentation, tag alignment and error positions — for sitemaps, configs, SVG and SOAP payloads.
How to use it
- Paste XML to format and validate in one step.
- Read parse errors with line numbers.
- Copy formatted output or minified form.
Examples
- Readable sitemap.xml before submitting to Search Console.
- Reviewing an Android manifest diff.
- Tidying exported SVG for hand-editing.
Important limitations
- Formatting preserves semantics but rewrites whitespace-only text nodes.
- A single malformed tag fails everything — fix from the first error down.
- Encoding declarations matter: declare UTF-8 and save as UTF-8.
Privacy
Local formatting. Feed and config contents stay on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Pretty or minified?
Pretty for review, minified for wire size.
Self-closing vs explicit close?
Equivalent in XML; formatters typically prefer self-closing for empty elements.
BOM or no BOM?
Prefer no BOM with explicit UTF-8 declaration for maximum compatibility.
