About this tool
What does it show?
Every character as Unicode code points (U+0041), \uXXXX escapes, HTML entities and URL escapes — plus names. The way to see invisible characters, confusables and encoding bugs.
How to use it
- Paste text to inspect each character with its code point.
- Copy the escape form your target needs (JS, HTML, URL).
- Hunt zero-width and lookalike characters in suspicious strings.
Examples
- Finding a zero-width space breaking a username match.
- Distinguishing Cyrillic “а” from Latin “a” in phishing URLs.
- Getting the HTML entity for → (
→).
Important limitations
- What you see is encoding-dependent: the same bytes mean different things in UTF-8 vs Windows-1252.
- Grapheme clusters (flags, family emoji) are multiple code points acting as one glyph.
- Normalization forms (NFC/NFD) compare differently — normalize before comparing.
Privacy
Inspection is local. Pasted text — often credentials-adjacent — stays on your device.
Frequently asked questions
\uXXXX vs HTML entities?
\u escapes for code/JSON strings; entities (→) for HTML markup.
Why do two identical strings not match?
Invisible characters or different normalization — this tool reveals both.
What is Mojibake?
Right bytes, wrong decoding (e.g. UTF-8 read as Latin-1): é instead of é. Re-decode with the right charset.
